چکیده

Received (received date) Revised (revised date) A computational study of sliding blocks on inclined surfaces is presented. Assuming that the friction coefficient µ is a function of position, the probability P (λ) for the block to slide down over a length λ is numerically calculated. Our results are consistent with recent experimental data suggesting a power-law distribution of events over a wide range of displacements when the chute angle is close to the critical one, and suggest that the variation of µ along the surface is responsible for this.

The SDL specification of the sliding window protocol revisited

We present the results of a case study in which the use of SDL tools was analysed on the basis of the sliding window protocol We chose the SDL speci cation of the protocol which was rst published by the ISO While editing and simulating the SDL speci cation we found out that the speci cation contains signi cant errors and does not meet the informal description of the protocol We describe these e...

A Sliding Blocks Estimator for the Extremal Index

Abstract: In extreme value statistics for stationary sequences, blocks estimators are usually constructed by using disjoint blocks because exceedances over high thresholds of different blocks can be assumed asymptotically independent. In this paper we focus on the estimation of the extremal index which measures the degree of clustering of extremes. We consider disjoint and sliding blocks estima...

Stick-Slip Motion and Phase Transition in a Block-Spring System

We study numerically stick slip motions in a model of blocks and springs being pulled slowly. The sliding friction is assumed to change dynamically with a state variable. The transition from steady sliding to stick-slip is subcritical in a single block and spring system. However, we find that the transition is continuous in a long chain of blocks and springs. The size distribution of stick-slip...

The SDL Speci cation of the Sliding Window Protocol Revisited

This paper is a corrigendum to the SDL speci cation of the sliding window protocol which was rst published by the ISO IEC as a technical report We present some results of a tool supported simulation of the SDL speci cation of the sliding window protocol We found out that the speci cation contains signi cant errors and does not meet the informal description of the protocol In this paper we descr...

Sliding Singlet Mechanism Revisited

We show that the unification of the doublet Higgs in the standard model (SM) and the Higgs to break the grand unified theory (GUT) group stabilizes the sliding singlet mechanism which can solve the doublet-triplet (DT) splitting problem. And we generalize this attractive mechanism to apply it to many unified scenarios. In this paper, we try to build various concrete E6 unified models by using t...
